It’s 1967 in downtown Chicago, and lots of things are happening. None of it matters much to Leo, Libby, Roy, and Memnet, whose concerns are getting enough to eat and avoiding the notice of the police. They’ve got a place to stay that’s safe but pretty dismal. They make their living by the “beg, borrow, and steal” method. They’re used to it, and though they aren’t happy, they’re content.

Things change in a hurry when the four witness a murder in Grant Park. They escape the killers, rescuing a young girl in the process, but the next day there’s no word that a crime was committed. When it becomes clear the murder was covered up, they realize two things: There’s more to this than simple murder, and they’re now in the killers’ sights, standing in the way of a daring impersonation and a shocking plot.

All they ever wanted was to remain anonymous, but everything’s different in A LETHAL TIME AND PLACE.

How is Writing In Your Genre Different from Others?
Mystery writing has to have great characters, setting, and writing, but it also needs a plot that gives the reader a fair shot at figuring things out without being too easy and therefore disappointing. I don’t think readers will figure all the intriguing parts of this one out, but when they “get it,” it’s great fun (at least that’s what they tell me).

What Advice Would You Give Aspiring Writers?
I have one word: PERSIST.

Nobody can tell you how “sellable” your writing is.

I can’t.

Your mother certainly can’t.

You have to keep writing and keep sharing your writing. You’ll grow, and eventually you might find an audience that wants to read exactly what you want to write.

Author Bio:
Peg Herring is the author of the critically acclaimed Simon & Elizabeth Mysteries, the award-winning Dead Detective Mysteries, the intriguing Loser Mysteries, and several stand-alone mysteries. When they’re not exploring the world, Peg and her husband of many years live in northern Lower Michigan, where they garden for the benefit of local rabbits, deer, and elk.

What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
A LETHAL TIME AND PLACE grew in my head like a squash plant: a little idea, a gradually spreading concept that took over the whole “garden” of my brain, and some really, really interesting fruit. The characters took hold of me in all their courage, determination, and humorous failings, and the story just poured into my computer (okay, there was a lot of editing, too, but that came later!).
